TheUrbanMommy82 Marilyn Monroe -- for real? Apr 8, 2008 12:33 PM She is known as the curvaceous mama of all mamas, but was she really that curvaceous? Rumors are that she wore a size 12-16 dress size in the 1950's which would be the equivalent to a size 6-8 today. I would view that as thin to average, not plus sized as some people claim. Some claim she would never be allowed into Hollywood now based on her size! I beg to differ, her size and shape was close to that of Kate Winslet's and although Kate has had her fair share of "chubby" remarks by the media, she is still considered hot, lovely and sexy--- so who cares? She remains one of the best and highest paid actresses today! I' am very confused by the claims that are made about Marilyn. She herself claims ( as her famous quote; "Here lies Marilyn") to be a 38-23-36. That is an extremely tiny waist possibly only achieved by way of girdle! I would say her breast size 38" was achieved by way of padded bra because her dress maker claims Marilyn was a 35-22-35. That would place her in the 34A category, not her alleged 36D, and make her a size 2 in pants. Just to compare I am a size 4-6 and measure 36-26-38, that means I would have way larger hips than she did and also a huge waist, I consider myself to be pretty average if not slender ;) By the way if she were as skinny as she claimed she would not wear a band size 36!!! She would have then had to be a 34DD And that would make her bust measurement 39" not her claimed 38" around. Either way the numbers just don't add up. I would then conclude 2 of 2 things that Marilyn's size would be up to individual interpretation and that she most likely lied about her real measurements. When she was skinny (At 5.5" weighing 118 lbs) I would place her at a size 2-4 wearing a size 34C padded bra, at her fuller weight (140 lbs.) like in "Some like it hot" I would say she is a size 8-10 with a 34D bra size. Personally I think her curves were a little bit smoke and mirrors, or in other words; girdles and padded bras. Every woman needs a little help, and there's no shame in that, I'm writing this more or less to prove that no woman is perfect right out of the box, even Miss Marilyn herself (I do love you though Marilyn!!). I know all the plus sized women in the world love to have the beautiful Marilyn as their "plus sized" icon, but maybe it's time to come to terms with the fact that Marilyn was not actually so plus sized. Our view of what's normal and healthy has totally morphed in recent years due mainly to emaciated runway models! It's to the point now that we think normal girls like Jennifer Love Hewitt are FAT. That's just crazy! Even if she were a size 10, that's still not fat! Come on ladies and love yourselves!!! In my opinion Marilyn was a beautiful woman with an average to normal, although perfectly proportioned, body type that was then sexed up for ultimate fame!

TheUrbanMommy82 The skinny on the skinny jean Mar 27, 2008 10:33 AM Skinny jeans is a trend we've all tried, some of us did this in the 80's or even 90's and those of us who weren't old enough then are doing it now. I must confess in rare instances this trend can look good and sophisticated. I didn't look nearly as hot as I thought I would when I pulled on a pair of skinny grey wranglers... These pants are made for curve-less chicks and emo boys. If you have curves, and I mean like ANY AT ALL, stick to a more flattering boot cut, straight leg or wide leg cut!
TheUrbanMommy82 Cool jeans site Mar 27, 2008 9:54 AM Go to www.truejeans.com create a profile with your measurments and they will tell you your best fit of designer jeans. What I like about truejeans.com VS zafu.com is that at truejeans you actually give your real measurments and not just your weight. Muscle weighs more than fat so if you're really fit and weigh more zafu would say you need a bigger size. Jeans are limited at truejeans.com but it's fun to see which ones would fit you best and what size you should be wearing!
